Motorola’s SLVR just got more expensive than Vertu. Motorola’s SLVR phone had been outlined with 260 diamonds which had been brought proportionally from all parts of the globe and also with platinum plates which made it to cost around $75000. That’s very expensive and was shown at the Fresh Art “Zoom” Exhibition. More pics after the jump.

You may not know it, but every time you search on Google, the company makes 12 cents in revenue.

That may not sound like much but it all adds up when you realise that Americans alone did more than 2.7 billion searches via Google in January 2006, according to figures gathered by Nielsen/NetRatings. The analyst firm estimates that 48% of the 5.7 billion searches carried out by Americans in January were done via Google. It also said that 39% more searches were done in January 2006 than in the same month in 2005. But, said the firm, this was not because search engines were doing a bad job.

While compact disc sales have declined 19 percent since 2001, online music sales have started to boom. According to a recent report by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, revenues from digital music sales almost tripled in the last year, to $1.1 billion in 2005. Apple’s iTunes accounted for over 85 percent of the single song downloads, but Apple is not alone in the online music space.

Google, EarthLink Move Closer To Free Wi-Fi In San Francisco
In beating five competitors for a key committee endorsement, Google Inc. and Earthlink Inc. have cleared the first hurdle in their joint bid to build a free Wi-Fi network across San Francisco.

Wednesday night's approval by the city's TechConnect Committee moved the Google-Earthlink team, which also includes Motorola and Tropos Networks, considerably closer to building the network that will blanket the city. Before construction can begin, however, the winners have to negotiate a contract with the city and then get it approved by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

In getting the committee's endorsement, Google and partners beat bids from MetroFi Inc., Razortooth Communications LLP, NextWLAN Corp., Communications Bridge Global Inc. and SF Metro Connect, a nonprofit backed by IBM and Cisco Systems Inc. MetroFi, which has built citywide Wi-Fi networks in several Silicon Valley cities, came the closest to beating the winners, the San Francisco Chronicle said.
